Hornby Driver Training is a husband and wife team, John and Wendy Hornby. Our belief is that driver training is more than just having the skill to handle a car; it is a complete approach to develop attitude, knowledge, skills and behaviour.
We have been driving since the 1970's and both passed the IAM (
John has a motor vehicle background having been a mechanic working for Volkswagen, Audi and BMW dealers for 12 years. He then moved into a training career working for Autoglass and SIGplc (construction) for over 20 years.
He has developed and delivered many types of training and development to all levels of employees and has most recently worked as a Training Manager specialising in coaching and mentoring Graduates in Management roles.
John became an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) for the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) in 2005 and is rated Grade 5. This allows him to fuse his coaching and mentoring skills with love and experience for driving. He set up Hornby Driver Training shortly after this and worked part-time as an instructor whilst continuing to work for SIGplc. In 2009, John decided it was the right time to leave SIGplc and begin working full-time at Hornby Driver Training.
Wendy has worked in a variety of office jobs and her last was School Administrator at South Axholme School in Epworth. In April 2011, Wendy became the second full time Driving Instructor for the business, making Hornby Driver Training one of the few husband and wife driving schools in the area. This also allows us to provide a choice of both male and female instructors.
John and Wendy have two sons, Dave and Andy, both of whom have completed University Degree courses, and, of course, are car drivers.
Our hobbies are caravanning, walking, playing badminton and tennis, driving (obviously!), cycling and motorcycling.
